|The Seventh day Adventist Hospital, Ottapalam, is a pioneer charitable mission hospital established in 1969; as a part of a health care unit of the worldwide organization - the Seventh day Adventist Church. The hospital is situated in the district of Palakkad which lies adjacent to the Palakkad - Shoranur highway. |
|For effective functioning the S.D.A. Church has formed the Trust body called Council of Seventh day Adventist Hospitals (COSDAH) and later Medical Trust of Seventh day Adventists which is a registered body under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, Reg. No.516 of 1999, under which the hospitals are embedded. This Trust operates on a no loss no profit basis. All the operations and accounts are strictly scrutinized and certified by the Chartered Accountant on a yearly basis after the internal auditing is done. All dues and liabilities like Income Tax, Provident Fund, Gratuity, Retirement and other schemes are strictly implemented.|
The Medical Trust operates 11 hospitals situated across the country, under the umbrella of the Seventh day Adventist denomination; these hospitals are affiliated to world class institutions like Loma Linda Medical Centre, a leading medical institute in the world. Four of our hospitals have Nursing Schools attached to them. These schools have been running successfully for a number of years and currently are being upgraded to the collegiate level.
The Medical Trust has found a need to start a Nursing School in this part of South India and has chosen S.D.A. Hospital for this purpose. The reason being that this hospital has been instrumental in serving the community for the past several years, with a covering radius up to the district of Salem. The other reason being that prior to the establishment of the Nursing School several training programmes were conducted successfully like Nurses Assistant Training Program etc.
This hospital has grown from a 60 bedded hospital of general practice to a 150 bedded multi specialty hospital serving a population of over 3,000,000. With the construction of the New Surgical Ward, the bed strength now has been upgraded to 210. The hospital own 32.93 acres of land which facilitates sufficient space for further expansion.
We are also involved in charitable and community health work. We were the first voluntary medical team to respond to the outbreak of a cholera epidemic in Attapadi, Palakkad District, which was highly appreciated by the District Collector, D.M.O. and the Press. Our institution is approved for reimbursement of the medical bills for employees of major Central Government undertakings like I.T.I, Palakkad and senior citizens U.T.I. plans. Employees in B.S.N.L. and other insurance schemes, R.I.L. and Met Life are under our medical services.
The Trust has been instrumental in serving the medical and educational field of India for the past 125 yrs and this institution had been serving the community for 38 yrs. Thus the School of Nursing in this region has helped to strengthen the community health work and provide higher standards in nursing care. The continuous demand for competent Nursing care has created a complex need for more and better nursing service. The large exodus of Nurses going abroad has intensified the need to produce service minded and competent nurses that can serve our own country.
For the last 6 yrs, we have been successfully running the Nursing School programme, under the auspices of the State Kerala Nursing Council. Having a national recognition will help to enhance better services in the community, produce competent, dedicated nurses; enhance the nursing care in the hospital, facilitate standardized Nursing care that is in par with the national level and its requirement.
